Single-piece fiber bottles have failed to scale because of long cycle times, rough surface finish, and high unit costs. PB1’s multi-piece architecture solves these limitations by enabling fast production, premium surface finish, and compatibility with existing molded-fiber lines. PB1 is a scalable, high-performance solution that allows brands to meet new global packaging regulations, consumer demands and retailer mandates for a truly future-proof solution.

Designed for Paper Recycling

PB1 meets CEPI Class A and B paper-recyclability standards and has demonstrated 84%+ sorting success in independent, real-world recycling tests in Europe. PB1 is designed to be processed within standard paper-recycling systems without requiring consumer disassembly. Consumers can place PB1 bottles in household paper-recycling streams, which remain the most widely recovered packaging material globally.

High-Performance Bio-Based Barrier Solutions

PB1 supports a range of high-performance barrier films designed for circularity. The system is compatible with most film-based laminates, with Cove’s focus on bio-based barriers that match the moisture- and oxygen-protection levels of leading packaging formats. Independent testing shows PB1 achieving WVTR below 1.0 g/m²/day and OTR below 1.0 cc/m²/day, supporting long shelf-life requirements for liquids, creams, and concentrates. Barrier performance is achieved while meeting CEPI paper-recyclability standards.

Lower Carbon by Design

Independent life-cycle assessments show PB1 can achieve significant carbon-emission reductions compared to conventional plastic and composite packaging, with modelled scenarios indicating 30–70% lower CO₂e depending on format and use case. These reductions are driven by renewable feedstocks, efficient fiber-molding processes, and compatibility with existing paper-recycling systems, which together reduce material and energy demand across the value chain.
